Intern – AI Engineer

upGrad is hiring for the role of AI Engineer Intern in Mumbai, offering a 3–6 month on-site internship for students and recent graduates in technical fields. The role focuses on building AI-native learning experiences by working directly on LLM-powered products, including prototyping intelligent solutions and enhancing content and learner engagement. Interns will gain hands-on experience with modern AI technologies such as RAG pipelines, AI agents, and prompt engineering while collaborating with cross-functional teams to solve real-world educational challenges. The position emphasizes a builder mindset, rapid experimentation, and continuous learning, providing exposure to cutting-edge AI applications in the edtech space with a monthly stipend of ₹30,000.

Responsibilities

• Build and experiment with LLM-powered features including RAG pipelines, AI agents, and prompt engineering workflows
• Develop and test prototypes for personalization, content generation, and learner engagement use cases
• Evaluate model outputs for quality, relevance, and safety in an educational context
• Collaborate with product managers, learning scientists, and engineers to translate learner problems into AI solutions
• Integrate AI modules into existing product workflows using APIs and internal tools
• Document experiments, findings, and implementation decisions for cross-functional teams
• Stay updated with advancements in LLMs, agentic frameworks, and AI in education
• Debug, test, and iterate models based on feedback and performance metrics

Requirements

• Eligibility & Education:
• B.Tech / M.Tech / MCA (pursuing or recently graduated)
• Available for a 3–6 month internship Technical & Functional Skills:
• Strong Python programming skills with clean and readable code practices
• Hands-on experience with LLMs, LangChain, RAG pipelines, or AI agents
• Basic understanding of model evaluation and deployment concepts
• Ability to build prototypes and work on AI-based product features Other Skills:
• Ability to work independently and ask the right questions
• Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Curiosity and eagerness to explore AI applications in education
• Builder mindset with focus on experimentation and execution
